Overall Improvements to Medecins Sans Frontieres

These are the recommendations so far
  • include a comments section at the bottom of all news / media articles to encourage users to have their say
  • include links to sites that will enhance their site. For example 'get up' a political site that helps create social change.
  • include a link to bookmark the site online to encourage other viewers. For Example 'de.li.cious
  • include link to a sharing platform like 'digg' or 'newsvine' where the articles from MSF can be viewed by others, helping spread the news and optimize the MSF site. Users can also rank the MSF article on these platforms to raise it's profile.

  1. I must say I was impressed with MSF site - it is clear and easy to find information.

  2. MSF has a site map which GetUp! doesn't, though I tried to find the interactive game and couldn't, maybe a link?

  3. I agree with the suggestion to provide a sharing tool : though I just click the link on my toolbar to share on my facebook page (saddo I know !). Am not sure about comments : this does need some monitoring and control, maybe this would be too costly for MSF ? I definitely do not agree with the links suggestion to political or social change sites : MSF operate successfully due to their non political nature. They do need a web strategy to connect with people, but need to avoid getting into a political mire : I like their newsfeed, news stories, availability as pdf, and I liked being able to catch up with what they are doing in individual countries. The hospice I am associated with is on facebook and has been quite successful in getting some publicity and funds that way : I see there is a general facebook entry for MSF (not all that easy to find) maybe a link to that for facebook users would be a good way of getting more facebook fans ?

  4. I think that having a comment section with the news is good to get people sharing their point of view rather than links off the site. I do agree with Roberta that it would need to be monitored.

  5. I found the malaria game. It felt like a gimic and I played it for all of 3 seconds before getting over it.

I'm in total agreement about having the icons to digg/facebook/redit etc. While, as Roberta said, dedicated users can do it, having the icon there is a visual reminder, especially under videos/pictures.

Maybe rather than a comment section for blogs/news there could be something along the lines of 'send a message of thanks/encouragement to our staff in the field'?

I also have to agree with John, the sitemap is great and show that they have thought about the structure (ACF's site is horrible in this respect).

The Refugee Camp game doesn't have a high replayability and more of an educational tool, interesting, but largely forgetable. I feel like most of the charity sites that I've been looking at struggle to find a way to encourage people to revisit them, this one included, although the blogs would appeal to some (their supporters). Am I wrong in feeling that revisitablility should be a trait of a good 2.0 site?
